Donation 4: 191 cigarettes

We recently accepted a very large donation of nine unopened Winston cartons as well as an open carton with eleven cigarettes.

"Dear Dr. Dempsey,
Please use these only as the newspaper article said you would. They killed both of my parents."

Donation 3: 19 cigarettes

This cigarette donation was accompanied by a letter from the donor explaining their method of quitting smoking. An edited version of the letter is below.

"Dear Dr. Dempsey,
I am a 92 year old female who "quit cold" on November 30, 1975.
I still have two unopened flat boxes of "Benson and Hedges" on one of my bookcases- and a box with only 13 remaining cigarettes in an ashtray on my executive desk. That box has "Roguefort" written on the front white area so I would not forget to buy the cheese on the way home. I had previously learned self-hypnosis."

Donation 2: 2 cigarettes

"Saw your article in today's paper. I looked in my cigarette container and found these two cigarettes. Don't know how old they are. Used to smoke the red tip ones. But I never inhaled. When I was 21 years old, I worked at Myers Drug store cigarette counter. I am now85 years old. I don't remember when I stopped buying cigarettes. Probably 45 years ago. Hope this helps."
