This cigarette donation was accompanied by a letter from the donor explaining their method of quitting smoking. An edited version of the letter is below.
"Dear Dr. Dempsey,
I am a 92 year old female who "quit cold" on November 30, 1975.
I still have two unopened flat boxes of "Benson and Hedges" on one of my bookcases- and a box with only 13 remaining cigarettes in an ashtray on my executive desk. That box has "Roguefort" written on the front white area so I would not forget to buy the cheese on the way home. I had previously learned self-hypnosis."
